Acne is a very distressing condition and patients suffering from it often experience emotional disorders in addition to the physical effects. To get rid of it, a wide range of acne treatments that work are available at various dermatologist clinics, skin care centers, beauty salons and like places. Most therapies aim to not only remove the already existing acne or marks but to inhibit formation of new pimples, scars and cysts as well.

Over the past various forms of acne treatments that work effectively have been know ranging from herbal remedies to medicinal treatments.

Herbal practitioners consider acne problems to be a cause of underlying health conditions such as hormonal imbalances, poor digestion, sluggish liver and bowel functions and nutritional deficiencies. Thus herbal remedies involve use of herbal preparations consisting of herbs specifically aimed at curbing the very cause of acne. Traditional herbs are used to make preparations which when applied to acne prone areas and/or consumed over a period of time provide great relief. Mahonia or Oregon Grape is a herb when topically used is shown to decrease sebum and kill acne enhancing bacteria and when internally used improves functioning of the liver and digestive system.

Golden seal used in combination with marshmallow reduces redness and kills infection causing bacteria. Internally, it acts as an antibiotic and liver tonic. Burdock, yellow dock and Dandelion are herbs that work together to purify blood, and improve liver and gall bladder functioning. Treatments comprising use of one or more of other common herbs such as cowslip, lemon grass, black walnut, agrimony, tea tree oil, Aloe Vera, neem, sandal wood etc have been observed to be acne treatments that work well.

Medicinal practitioners usually believe that acne appears due to hormonal misbalances. Thus medicinal treatments usually involve methods to reduce these oil levels and control the acne causing bacteria. Most of the anti-acne soaps or medicines contain benzoyl peroxide that acts as an anti- bacterial agent and helps in removal of dead skin and prevents blocking of pores and infection. Accutane is a form of drug that works by drying up of oily secretion. Retiniods are vitamin A based medicines that work by feeling off the outer layer of infected skin.

Antibiotic lotions and tablets are available that control the formation of P.acnes bacteria. Laser therapies have also become a common acne treatment that works for extremely severe conditions and have shown promising results. Those with mild conditions usually get relief by the use of well advertised products and choose not to undergo extensive therapies. However, those suffering from acute conditions are advised to undergo routine check up and use only prescribed medication.

Variety of options for acne cure is available these days and various methodologies are adopted by practitioners to develop acne treatments that work efficiently. No one treatment method is suitable to all. Depending on the age, gender, skin type and severity of the disorder one has to choose the method most appropriate to one's cure.
